Since starting SedX in 2023 we have delivered a variety of presentations and workshops to schools and sixth forms.  We have found that our delivery of sessions around the relationship between misogyny and pornography has been particularly valued, as have our presentations about preparing for university life where we have explored themes relating to problematic substance use, hazing and consent.  Our Questions and Answers sessions around first time sex, managing expectation with reality have also proven popular.

Our experience of working in schools and other settings with young people informs the various ways in which we can work with our audiences, recognising that different organisations and the young people they work with have different requirements and capacities for working and learning.

Examples of the formats we adopt when working with young people are:

  • Presentations - These can be delivered to small or very large groups, typically where a comparatively high amount of information needs to be shared in a relatively short amount of time.  Often these are delivered to school assemblies, youth conferences etc.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • Small group activity - These are typically delivered to smaller groups of under 40 young people. These sessions are designed to be interactive with comparatively high levels of young person involvement.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • Visual/discursive session - These sessions are particularly good for SEND young people, where the focus is on learning through discussion of visual information and where there is no requirement to read information from a screen.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • Q & A session - These sessions can take place after any of the formats listed above have been delivered - either the same day or several days/weeks later; or they can be facilitated as separate events.  The format we suggest means that young people have the options to directly or anonymously present questions.
